Jamestown police and emergency crews were busy last Friday responding to two auto-related accidents in the city, one of which took a city resident’s life.
City police say 85 year-old Angeline Marucci died after being struck by a pickup truck on West Fourth St. shortly after 10:30 Friday morning. Officers say Marucci was attempting to cross the street between the intersections of Lafayette and Washington streets when she was struck up by the pickup truck, which was in the center lane of the street. Marucci was taken to WCA Hospital where she died from her injuries. The driver of the truck was not charged in the accident. All-Star medical service and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office also responded to the scene.
Two people were also sent to the hospital Friday morning after three car accident took place on East 2nd St. in Jamestown. City police say the accident took place just before 11:30 a.m. when 20 year-old Katie Caldwell pulled her vehicle into traffic from a parked position. As she pulled into the eastbound lane, another car struck her vehicle and then that vehicle was forced into the westbound land and struck a third vehicle head-on. Police say both drivers involved in the head-on collision were taken by ambulance to WCA Hospital for treatment.
Caldwell was charged with failure to yield the right of way and starting from parked position unsafely.
