JAMESTOWN – A Jamestown man led state troopers and local police on a high-speed chase Friday before they used a tire-deflating device to stop him. State Police in Jamestown say a state trooper was on a patrol on McDaniel Avenue in Jamestown when a Ford F250 truck crossed over the center lines and into his lane, forcing the trooper to leave the road to avoid being struck. The trooper then attempted to pull over the pickup truck but the driver did not comply and a pursuit began. The chase took place through Jamestown, Ellicott, Celoron and Lakewood, at times at 97 mph in a 30 mph zone, authorities said.
Eventually, Lakewood-Busti Police put down the tire deflating device, which punctured the front tires of the truck. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing him to crash into two trees, a utility pole and two road signs. He then fled the vehicle on foot before being caught and arrested.
Officer identified the man as 34 year old Matthew Harrison of Jamestown. He was charged with aggravated felony driving while intoxicated, along with several other violations, including speeding.
He was arraigned in the Town of Busti court and sent to the Chautauqua County Jail.
