JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown City Council has given its support to the Resource Center’s effort to build a Community Health Services Center, although the agency will have to adhere to some additional conditions from the city if it is to qualify for any or all of a $200,000 grant.
During Monday night’s city council voting session, the council voted 8 to 0 in favor of a resolution that supports the $3 million project. City councilman Vince DeJoy – who also chairs the council’s finance committee – said he and other city officials added the stipulations in order to deter the Resource Center from building on a property in an industrial zone of the city. The property that was being considered by the Resource Center was on Harrison Street in Jamestown. DeJoy says it is the city’s only shovel-ready industrial site – and the city should work to keep that property available in the event a developer wishes to build an industrial business on that location.
The Resource Center, which is a not-for-profit agency and is not required to pay any property taxes to the city – has agreed to consider other possible locations for the facility.
