MAYVILLE – Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards is calling on all county employees to help in the fight against child sexual abuse.
In his most recent Monday Morning Memo, Edwards said that he has challenged all of his department leaders and their appropriate staff members to join him and take part in the Child Advocacy Program’s (CAP) “County Leaders Leading the Way to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse” Initiative. To date, nine County leaders will be attending this program.
The initiative is part of CAP and Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children Sexual Abuse Prevention Training, which will be held on April 17 from 9 a.m. to Noon at the Child Advocacy Program headquarters, located 405 W. 3rd St. in Jamestown.
Parents, caregivers, and staff and volunteers who work with children at schools, daycares, faith centers, recreational departments, and other youth-serving organizations are encouraged to attend. Registration is required and it is $10 per person.
According to Edwards, by the time they are 18 years old, one in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused and approximately 20 percent of the victims of sexual abuse are younger than eight years old.
