The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting today that officials in the Town of Busti have reached an agreement with the village of Lakewood regarding a contract with Lakewood-Busti Police Department.
Earlier this week, the town board unanimously approved a long-term contract that that will increase how much town residents who live outside of the village will pay toward the police department. The contribution will be gradually increased over a five year period, with Busti paying around 37 percent of the costs for the Lakewood-Busti Police Department by the year 2017.
Currently, the town covers about 28 percent of the cost of the police operation. Village officials felt the town should contribute more because more than 28 percent of police business takes place outside of the village in other areas of the town.
