BUFFALO – The Brocton high school football player who was injured during a game Friday night died Monday in a Buffalo area hospital.
The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting this morning that 16 year-old Damon Janes died Monday in Buffalo’s Women and Children’s Hospital. The high school junior, who played for the recently merged Westfield-Brocton football team, was injured after being hit by another player during a game in Portville Friday night. The game was called off after the injury Friday night.
It’s been reported that Janes lost consciousness following the hit and was rushed to Women and Children’s Hospital, where he remained in intensive care until passing away on Monday.
As a result fo Janes’ death, Brocton has canceled all Homecoming activities planned for this week and has postponed its board of education meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday to Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. Also, Westfield has canceled its open house that was scheduled for Thursday until further notice. Brocton has canceled its own visitation and tour for middle school students of the Westfield Academy and Central School facility that was also scheduled for Thursday.
The Morse Funeral Home in Brocton is handling arrangements.
