GERRY – Just two days after the current Chautauqua County clerk announced she would not be seeking reelection, another member of the GOP has come forward to announce he will be running for the post.
Current Chautauqua County Legislator and minority leader Larry Barmore (R-Gerry) announced Thursday that he will be running for the office of Chautauqua County Clerk. Barmore hopes to succeed fellow republican Sandy Sopak, who announced on Tuesday she would not be seeking reelection.
Barmore, who lives in Gerry, points to the business he’s run for the past four decades as his credentials, saying he’s gained plenty of experience in managing a staff, working within a budget and delivering service to the public. Barmore is currently in his third term as a Chautauqua County Legislator and has served on the Administrative Services Committee, Public Facilities Committee, Airport Task Force and the Legislative Redistricting Committee.
Barmore is the first person to step forward and announce his intention to run for the office of County Clerk.
