ASHVILLE – A food processing plant in Ashville will be closing its doors this week. The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting today that AFA Foods is closing its ground beef processing plant on Route 474. AFA Foods – previously known as Fairbank Farms – filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April following its connection to the ”pink slime” controversy. According to a plant manager, the Ashville plant’s equipment was liquidated and purchased by another company during the bankruptcy proceedings. The plant’s last day of production will be Wednesday and all of its 100 workers will be laid off.
