The Chautauqua County Humane Society is announcing the availability of more than 20 Collies following an animal cruelty case in the town of Busti.
According to a media release from the Humane Society, Busti resident Maureen Ryan of Busti was facing charges of 31 counts of animal cruelty, stemming from an investigation by animal cruelty officers. Last week, Ryan pleaded guilty to a single count of animal cruelty in Busti Town Court, on the condition that she surrender the 26 dogs to The Chautauqua County Humane Society and that she no longer breed any animals for at least one year. She was also allowed to keep five of the dogs, on the condition that as many as six unannounced check ups on the animals could be conducted during the year.
Ryan‘s residence was visited by a CCHS Humane Investigator in December following complaints that numerous dogs were being housed in poor conditions. As a result of the visit, the Humane Investigator found the conditions to be poor and unsanitary. A medical exam of the surrendered animals found that all were underweight and had other medical concerns.
While in the care of the Humane Society, the Collies have been cleared for general adoption.
Residents interested in adopting the animals can stop by the the Strunk Road Adoption Center Monday, Wednesday and Saturday from Noon to 4 PM and Tuesday and Friday from 2 to 6PM. For more information visit www.spcapets.com.
