The Runway 7 Restaurant at the Chautauqua County Airport will be paying less to use space in the facility. During last night’s Chautauqua County Legislature meeting, lawmakers approved reducing the restaurants rent to $200 a month instead of the $600 a month that was initially agreed to. In addition, the restaurant has agreed to pay the county 5 percent of its receipts up to a maximum of $600 a month.
The resolution was sponsored by Legislator Vince Horrigan (R-Bemus Point), who said the restaurant isn’t seeing a lot of business during the summer, adding that the new rent structure is similar to ones found at other regional airports and will allow for season adjustments in business.
But not everyone agreed the new rent adjustment was necessary. Legislator Tom DeJoe (D-Brocton) expressed his concerns about having individual legislators renegotiating contracts for the county, while William Coughlin (D-Fredonia) felt that the restaurant hasn’t been open long enough to justify a rent restructuring. The resolution passed by a vote of 19 t0 8. The Runway 7 restaurant opened in May at the Chautauqua County airport. It is owned and operated by Teal Wolcott.
