MAYVILLE – A restaurant that is operating at the Chautauqua County airport is looking to get its rent reduced. The Chautauqua County Legislature’s Public and Facilities committee will be meeting next Monday (Aug. 13) and among the items to be considered is a resolution sponsored by legislators Vince Horrigan (R-Bemus Point) and David Himelein (R-Findley Lake) that would restructure the rent payment for the Runway 7 Restaurant and Lounge.
Since opening in March of this year, the number of summer restaurant patrons has been half the number projected by owner Teal Wolcott. As a result, the business is incurring mounting losses. Currently, Wolcott is paying the county $600 a month in rent to operate the restaurant. The resolution being considered next week would amend the current rent agreement to be retroactive to June 1, 2012 and provide for a base rent charge of $200 per month plus 5 percent of gross sales up to a maximum of $600 per month. The new payment plan was already approved during a meeting of the Airport Commission earlier this month. Next week’s meeting will be at 4 p.m. in Mayville.
