GERRY – The 2012 Gerry Rodeo will kick off tonight at the rodeo grounds in Gerry. This will be the 68th year of the event, which features a midway and a tasty barbecue beef dinner, in addition to the wrangling and riding that takes place in the rodeo arena. Rodeo Media Coordinator Paul Cooley says the event started back in the 1940s as a way to raise money for the volunteer fire department.
Cooley says since the first rodeo in Gerry, the fire department has continued to look forward to hosting the event, not only because it serves as the primary fundraiser, but also because it draws attention to the community about six miles north of Jamestown. The Gerry Rodeo will run from tonight and continue through Saturday. For more information, go online to www.gerryrodeo.org.
