DUNKIRK – Friday is Groundhog Day and a big celebration is taking place in Northern Chautauqua County.
The second longest prognosticating groundhog, Dunkirk Dave, will celebrate 50 years of predicting whether or not we will see an early spring or a longer winter.
Dunkirk Dave’s handler, Bob Will, says Dave is the second longest weather predicting ground hog, next to his more well-known cousin Punxsutawney Phil, who has recorded predictions as far back as 1887.
Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul will be in Dunkirk as a special guest for Friday’s annual event to celebrate Dave’s 50-year milestone.
