Yesterday’s water main break and disruption in near Persell Middle School is being attributed to water line flushing. That’s according to today’s Jamestown Post-Journal, which says the break occurred on the corner of Baker Street and Hazeltine Avenue and was reported around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. According to the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities, it didn’t affect people dropping off students at Persell Middle School on Wednesday morning, although it did cause some congestion. Water was off in the immediate area while crews worked to fix the break and traffic was closed on Baker Street from Hazeltine to Indiana avenues until noon on Wednesday.
And a raccoon is credited with causing a power outage for nearly 6,000 National Grid customers in Lakewood early Tuesday morning. The outage was caused by a raccoon getting into the substation on Baker Street and climbing on top of the transformer. Also on Wednesday afternoon, approximately 350 BPU customers near the downtown area were without power for just over an hour. The outage was caused by a failed lightning arrester on a utility pole located at Fairmount Avenue and Eight Street.
