JAMESTOWN – Reg Lenna Center for The Arts will be the home to the biggest movie sing-along in the area when IBEX Puppetry presents Sing Along with The Muppet Movie on September 19 at 2 p.m.
The 1979 film will show at the theater while live performers lead the children and grown-ups in the audience through cheering, singing, yelling out famous lines and dancing in the aisles. Each admission comes with a goodie bag featuring bubbles, streamers, confetti pops and more that can be used during the performance. The Muppet Movie is the 1979 debut of the famous Muppet characters on the silver screen. It follows Kermit the Frog as he embarks on a cross-country trip to Hollywood. Along the way, he meets many other misfit Muppets. They join Kermit to overcome danger, discover their true selves, and build a future of friendship together.
“With schools open again and many fall activities in the area, we wanted to offer an event that invites families and community members to take a break from the hustle and bustle and spend some time with each other and beloved characters who continue to teach and entertain to this day,” said Len Barry, Director of Marketing and Communications for The Reg.
While Muppet creator, Jim Henson passed away 25 years ago, his children continue his legacy. His youngest daughter, Heather Henson created IBEX Puppetry in 2000 to promote harmony and healing for the planet through artistic spectacle and discussion. Says Henson, “Sing Alongs allow me to connect with the work of my father. I can work with my Dad’s material. I can put a new spin on it but it’s still his stuff, intact. And it gives me an opportunity to watch them and over again!”
Reg Lenna Center for The Arts will promote conservation, recycling and more green efforts by having Chautauqua Watershed Conservancy and other organizations represented in the lobby with handouts and activities that appeal to children and families. “It IS easy being green.” remarked Barry.
Goodie bag purchases are required for admission and cost $5, $20 and $25 for children and $10, $20 and $25 for adults. Comfort Inn of Jamestown, the official hotel of Reg Lenna Center for The Arts is the sponsor for the event.
Reservations may be made by calling 716.484.7070 or online at reglenna.com. The Reg box office is open between 10am and 5pm, Tuesday through Friday, 10am and 2pm on Saturday and one hour prior to movies and event times.
