WRFA’s Jason Sample talks with Maria Perez-Cruz, district director for Catholic Charities’ services in Chautauqua County, and Deb Felton, Chautauqua County WIC coordinator, about Catholic Charities’ 2019 Appeal. The theme is “Help your neighbor find hope” and the Appeal runs through the end of June with a goal of $11 million, with donations dedicated to funding the programs and services Catholic Charities provides to the most vulnerable populations in our communities, and to a number of programs and ministries though the Fund for the Faith.
In Chautauqua County, the lives of nearly 14,000 individuals were impacted last year through services offered by Chautauqua County, with local donors contributing $301,249 in 2018.
In light of the settlements for the sex abuse scandal in the Diocese, Catholic Charities also assures donors that none of the money raised for the Appeal has been or ever will be used for any legal fees or case settlements. Compensation to victims comes from the
Diocese’s self-insured liability fund and its investment fund, as well as the sale of Diocesan properties.
