LAKEWOOD – Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care will hold an open house Monday at its Lakewood Office to answer questions about advance care planning and assist individuals with the completion of their documents.
The open house is being held in observance of National Healthcare Decisions Day, an occasion that highlights the importance of making arrangements should one become seriously ill and unable to make his or her own healthcare decisions. Living wills and healthcare proxies are two of the most common advance directives that can be completed at the open houses.
According to a 2008 survey conducted by Excellus, 88 percent of state residents think it is important to designate someone to make medical decisions on their behalf should they become seriously ill and unable to do so themselves, yet only 42 percent had designated a healthcare proxy.
The open house will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the organization’s Lakewood offices, 20 W. Fairmount Ave. The event is free and open to the public.
