Originally airing Friday, April 10, 2015.

This week on Arts on Fire we talk with Jamestown’s Paul Leone about his presentation of Walt Whitman’s elegy to President Lincoln, following his assassination in April 1865.

Leone will partner with they Kerry Byard Family to present “Requiem: On the Death of Abraham Lincoln, April 15, 1865.”

Leone will recite Walt Whitman’s elegy to President Lincoln “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d” with musical accompaniment by The Kerry Byard Family (Kerry Byard – Flute – Marian Byard – Cello; Lydia Byard – Violin). In addition, he will also recite an additional Whitman poem, “Out of the Craddle Endlessly Rocking.” A brief discussion regarding Lincoln’s death and the impact it had on the country will also take place prior to poetry reading.

The event will take place in the Fireplace Room of the James Prendergast Library on April 18, 2015 – beginning at 2 p.m.

Free Admission with a reception to follow.
