MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Legislature will hold its monthly voting session Wednesday with a very light agenda.
Among the items the legislature will take action on is a resolution that would allow inmates from the Chautauqua County jail to be sent to the Wyoming County jail. The transfer of inmates is needed due to recent overcrowding at the jail in Mayville.
The rate per day would be $85 per inmate, and the county will also assume all medical costs.
Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace has said the overcrowding is due to 18 current inmates who are in the jail due to parole violations that are not connected to local charges but the county is still required to house the individuals locally as they await the court proceedings.
In addition the legislature will also act on a series of environmental assessment resolutions for various snowmobile trails in the county. And the legislature will also host a public hearing on leasing out office space to the TSA at the County Airport in Jamestown.
Wednesday’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the legislature chambers and is open to the public.
