ALBANY — It doesn’t seems likely that lawmakers in Albany will finalize a state budget by the end of this week. That after several lawmakers expressed optimism that a $132.5 billion spending plan would approved much earlier than the April 1 deadline.
According to a report in today’s Albany Times-Union, lawmakers are saying that an agreement on the budget is “very close,” but that several bicameral conference committees must still meet this week to iron out details. As a result, lawmakers are expecting the budget to be approved next Tuesday, April 27, at the earliest.
Education funding, business tax credits and a minimum wage increase are all issues that still need to be addressed.
After years of budget dysfunction in Albany, lawmakers in both the House and Senate – along with the governor – were hoping to be able to boast an earlier-than-usual budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
