LAKEWOOD, NY – A Lakewood man faces several charges after he was involved in a police chase with local authorities Monday afternoon in Jamestown and the Town of Busti.
According to a release sent by the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force and new York State Parole officers were attempting to serve an active parole arrest warrant Monday afternoon to 22 year-old Dylan Abbey.
As officers followed Abbey he attempted to elude officers in a vehicle. At this time a marked Jamestown Police Patrol unit attempted to stop the vehicle Abbey was driving and Abbey fled at a high speed. Other patrol units assisted in pursuing Abbey, who eventually abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot. Officers gave chase and were able to take Abbey into custody a short time later.
Abbey was initially charged with the New York State Parole arrest warrant and is being held without bail on that charge. As a result of the pursuit Abbey is charged with numerous Vehicle and Traffic Law violations as well as three counts of Reckless Endangerment in the 1st Degree, Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the 3rd Degree and Resisting Arrest. He was also charged with one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree after it was determined that the vehicle he was driving had been stolen. Other charges will be filed due to items located in the vehicle.
As a result of the arrest the Southern Tier Regional Drug Task Force, Chautauqua County Sheriff’s SWAT team, Lakewood Busti Police Department, Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force and New York State Parole executed a search warrant at 2291 Fairmount Ave. in the Town of Busti. As a result of the execution of this search warrant there will be additional charges filed against Abbey in the Town of Busti at a later date.
