LAKEWOOD–The Village of Lakewood will host its annual 4th of July Summerfest on Chautauqua and Terrace Avenues, and at Richard O. Hartley Park on Monday, July 4.  According to organizers, lots of new activities and events have been added to the lineup for 2016.

In addition to the morning races and playground Money Hunt, Lakewood has invited more vendors, including community partners, and added several children’s activities, and musical guests.

This year, special guests from the LECOM Health Challenge Web.com PGA TOUR (www.lecomhealthchallenge.com), including YouTube sensations the Bryan Brothers, will attend a new VIP area. All will culminate with the best fireworks show on Chautauqua Lake provided by the Zambelli Brothers.

10K Firecracker Run Kicks Off Day’s Events

The Lakewood Family YMCA starts off the day with the 10K Firecracker Run, 2 mile run and 2 mile walk at 9 a.m.  Pre-registration forms are available now at the Lakewood Family YMCA for $20 per person.  Registration on the day of the race will take place from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Richard O. Hartley Park.  The same-day fee is $25.

Complimentary kids’ events for those ages 2 to 11 years of age will include kids’ dashes starting at 9:30 a.m. and the popular M&T Bank Money Hunt at 11 a.m. held at the playground.

Kid Zone, Vendors, Music Throughout the Day

An all-new Kidz Zone opens at 11:30 a.m.  Tickets will admit children and families to bounce houses, an inflatable jousting unit, 20-foot slide, 9-hole miniature golf set up, and a dunk tank with local residents, and village officials waiting to take a plunge.  Other activities include a craft tent, Lakewood Fire Department fire truck and costume characters with balloons.

Lakewood's 4th of July Summerfest Poster (Final).pubThe vendor area will start at 12 noon with food, refreshments, crafts, gifts, carnival games, and caricatures available for purchase on Chautauqua Avenue.  Community partners will also be there to promote their products and services.

Marty’s Bubblegum Machine, a fun-filled children and family activities entertainer, will begin the day’s musical lineup at 11:30 a.m. in front of the park’s gazebo following the Money Hunt.

Yesterday’s on Summit Ave. will host Brian K. Chase performing from 2 to 5 p.m. while the band, Not Sold Separately, takes the stage from 6 to 9 p.m.

At Richard O. Hartley Park, Disc jockey Campbell Dawson will play tunes from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m. followed by the event’s main entertainment, Preach Freedom and Connect, which is sure to delight the crowd with its mix of funky blues/reggae, and rock from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.  The band’s feature musicians are local talents Steve Davis and Marla Harris.

Other scheduled activities include history walking tours, a K-9 demonstration presented by the Lakewood Police Department from 1 to 1:30 p.m., a Model T fire truck display and the Chautauqua Lake Community Sailing Foundation Open House with complimentary sailing rides from the Lakewood beach house from noon to 4 p.m.

A kids’ parade, “Lakewood on Wheels,” is slated for 5:00 p.m. at the intersection of Chautauqua and Terrace Avenues in Lakewood.  Prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd) will be awarded to the best decorated bike, wagon, scooter, stroller, etc.
