BUFFALO – Jamestown and Chautauqua County could be in for a significant amount of snowfall starting tonight and continuing tomorrow… but it doesn’t look like it will stay with us for very long.
The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning for Chautauqua and Cattaraugus Counties and Southern Erie County, to be in effect from 4 p.m. Friday afternoon until 10 p.m. Saturday.
Snow accumulations of up to 2 inches are expected for some areas today, with another 4 to 8 inches possible tonight and 3 to 6 inches expected for Saturday, leading to a storm total of 8 to 14 inches in the most persistent lake snow areas.
Forecasters say the greatest amount of snowfall in our area will be along the Chautauqua Ridge.
Forecaster also say that freezing drizzle today could lead to slippery driving surfaces in some areas, especially on untreated roads, and motorists are advised to use caution while driving.
While the forecast is calling for what could be a significant amount of snow, it’s unlikely to stay with us for long. Beginning on Sunday, temperatures are again expected to move back into the 40, with the possibility of it getting past 50 degrees by next Thursday.
