JAMESTOWN – Jury selection is underway in the case involving a Cheektowaga man who allegedly attacked a Chautauqua County Sheriff Deputy following a vehicle crash last year on Route 60 in the town of Pomfret.
The Post-Journal says three jurors were seated Tuesday in the case against 22 year-old Justin Haffa, who faces charges of first-degree attempted murder; first-degree robbery; and attempted aggravated assault on a police officer, all felonies.
Twelve jurors and four alternate jurors will be chosen for the case.
Haffa is accused of attacking a female sheriff deputy on Sept. 11, 2016 when he crashed his vehicle into a ditch on Route 60. As the deputy performed a field sobriety test, Haffa allegedly physically assaulted her and pinned her to the ground, injured her with a knife, and wrestled her gun away before fleeing the scene. Haffa was located and apprehended a short time later. A further investigation found multiple drugs inside his vehicle.
Jury selection will continue today in the trial.
