MAYVILLE – A Fredonia Man charged with murdering his elderly neighbor in 2010 has been found guilty of first-degree manslaughter.
On Monday just after 12:30 p.m., the jury in the murder trial against 41 year old Jason Wells in Chautauqua County Court concluded that he experienced and acted upon an extreme emotional disturbance when he beat, stabbed and strangled 81 year-old Ruth Fisk in February 2010. The incident took place in an apartment complex that both Wells and Fisk lived in at Fredonia’s One Temple Square. Wells was facing a charge of second degree murder. It took the jury nine-and-a-half hours to reach the verdict, which came after 34 witnesses and seven days of testimony.
With the verdict, Wells now faces a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison with five years of post-release supervision. He will be sentenced at a later date.
