JAMESTOWN – A neighborhood on the south side of town will be one of the target areas for a beautification and improvement program spearheaded by the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation.
The JRC has selected the Allen Park/UPMC Chautauqua area as the first selection of the 2019 Block Challenge 2.0 target area.
According to the JRC, a recent Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy study found there should be a focus on four areas of the city for housing revitalization. The four areas include the north side of the city around Lakeview Avenue area and North Main Street; the west side around Fairmount, Hall and Livingston avenues; the south side around Hazeltine/Forest avenues; and the south-east side around Allen Park and UPMC Chautauqua WCA along Foote Avenue.
After many discussions with community partners, officials with JRC chose the south /east side target area.
Officials say as much as $285,000 could be invested during the next five years in the neighborhood to help improve housing conditions in the area, which in turn will help to increase property values and desirability to live there.
