ALBANY – Chautauqua County’s job-loss rate is the third highest in New York State when compared to other counties outside Metropolitan Areas.
According to the New York State Department of Labor most recent job data report, Chautauqua County reported 49,400 non-farm jobs in January 2017, down from 50,000 jobs reported one year earlier.
The job-loss rate for the county was at 1.2 percent. When it comes to non-Metropolitan regions in New York, only Cayuga and Lewis counties had worse job-loss rates at 2 percent and 1.5 percent respectively.
Nearby Cattaraugus County also saw decline in available jobs, at a rate of .6 percent.
The job climate improved for the Buffalo area, however. According to the Labor Department, the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metro area, which includes both Erie and Niagara Counties, reported a total of 554,600 jobs, up 1.6 percent from one year earlier.
Overall, New York State gained more jobs during the time period, a rate of 1.4 percent. The total number of jobs in the state for January 2017 was at 9,275,000.
