Jamestown Community College has announced its 2012 commencement speaker. Darren Williams, associate professor of physics and astronomy at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, will deliver the ommencement address at JCC’s Cattaraugus County Campus on May 18 and at the Jamestown Campus on May 19.
Dr. Williams, who graduated from JCC in 1990, has authored or coauthored several research papers on the origin and evolution of habitable planets. His research has been featured in Nature, National Geographic, Astronomy, Sky and Telescope Astrobiology, and Discover magazines.
The May 18 ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in the Olean YMCA/JCC Physical Education Center on Wayne St. in Olean. The commencement program in Jamestown begins at 10 a.m. in the Physical Education Complex.
