JAMESTOWN – City police on Thursday say they’ve received a complaint from several citizens that they had received a phone call from a male subject who identified himself as an IRS Tax Agent.
According to Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson, the subject advised the citizens that they owed back taxes to the IRS and then asks for their Social Security number. “The complainants that we have did not give their personal information out to the caller but the public should be made aware of this situation to avoid the possibility that someone could be led to believe that the caller is an actual IRS Agent,” Samuelson explained in a media release.
As a result of the recent reports, Samuelson is reminding the public to NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION TO ANYONE OVER THE PHONE.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incidents.
