JAMESTOWN – A fire over the weekend has claimed the life of an infant, while sending five others to the hospital.
According to Jamestown Police, the fire broke out at 823 Prendergast Ave. shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. Fire crews arrived on the scene to battle the fire, and an infant was found to be unresponsive by emergency crews and was later pronounced dead. The infant was identified on Monday as 22-month-old Dieandre Hubbard.
The other occupants were taken to WCA Hospital for smoke inhalation and related injuries.
Fire crews were at the scene until early evening. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The two-story structure appears to be a total loss and the occupants are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
