JAMESTOWN – City police today are continuing their investigation into the homicide of a 16-month-old girl.
According to Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson, the unidentified child was taken to WCA Hospital’s emergency room by her mother Wednesday night, before being flown to Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo for further treatment. The child later died of her injuries Thursday morning.
An autopsy at Erie County Medical Center determined the child died of blunt-force trauma, which means she was more than likely beaten.
Police say no one has been taken into custody yet but the investigation continues.
The child was a resident at 218 Newland Ave. A 3-year-old was also living at the home, and has since been taken by Child Protective Services.
Police say the child’s mother had an on-again, off-again relationship with a local man, but no names are being released. Police also say the mother may have sought help from others in the community prior to taking the child the hospital.
Anyone with information on the child’s death should contact JPD at 483-7537 or leave an anonymous tip at 483-8477 (Tips).
