JAMESTOWN – Jamestown police have released the name of the person whose body was found in the Chadakoin River Monday morning.
The body of 61-year-old Robert Cavender was recovered from the river around 6:30 a.m. Monday in the vicinity of Victoria Ave. and Institute St.
Jamestown police say an investigation found that Cavender apparently fell into the water at some point overnight and drowned. His body was recovered by Jamestown firefighters and taken to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for an autopsy.
“We believe [he went into the water] behind Big Lots, where we also believe he had been staying,” JPD Captain Robert Samuelson told WRFA on Tuesday.
“The investigation has revealed that the death was accidental, and no criminal activity is involved,” Samuelson added.
