JAMESTOWN – Three men are in police custody following a traffic stop that led to the discovery of a large amount of Cyrstal Methamphetamine in Jamestown.

On Thursday, Dec. 1 at about 2:15 p.m., Jamestown Police officers stopped a vehicle on Newland Ave. that was driven by 32 year-old Beau Jones, who was suspected to be an unlicensed driver. A further investigation revealed a suspicious package in plain view in the vehicle. The New York State Police K9 Unit responded on the scene and alerted officers that the package may contain a controlled substance. Once a search warrant was issued for the package, officers discovered that it contained more than one pound (17.9 ounces) of crystal methamphetamine.

Jones was taken into custody and has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 1st degree, along with other related charges.

A further investigation led investigators to later stop a vehicle that was occupied by Steven Crowl, 20, and Mathew Jones, 30. Investigators located a safe in the vehicle and obtained a search warrant and it was found to contain 2.9 ounces of additional crystal meth, which was packaged fro sale.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges and arrests are expected. Anyone who may have information on the illegal sales and trafficking of narcotics in the Jamestown area can leave an anonymous tip on the department’s Tips 411 App, or they can leave an anonymous tip on the department’s tip line at 483-8477 (TIPS). All tips and calls will be kept confidential.
