JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown City Council continues to review the 2016 city budget in an effort to identify any possible adjustments that could result in a lower property tax hike.
On Monday night the council reviewed the departmental budgets for the City Clerk, Treasurer, Assessor, Comptroller, Information Services, and Corporation Counsel. No changes to the budget suggested following the meeting with the department heads.
The mayor’s $35.1 million executive budget is calling for a tax hike of 5.6 percent – which is well over the state mandated tax cap and which would also bring the city to within 99.9 percent of its constitutional taxing limit. The city council has until Nov. 30 to change and finalize the spending plan.
It will meet again next Monday at 6:30 p.m. to review the budgets for public safety. That meeting will take place in the mayor’s conference room on the fourth floor of City Hall and is open to the public.
