JAMESTOWN – The internationally-known Golden Dragon Acrobats bring their wildly popular show, Cirque Ziva to Reg Lenna Center for The Arts on Saturday, February 27 at 4pm. This will be the second appearance of the group in Jamestown after a sell-out performance in 2014.
Part centuries-old tradition, part groundbreaking art, Cirque Ziva combines award-winning acrobatics, traditional dance, spectacular costumes, ancient and contemporary music, and innovative theater. Since 1985, Golden Dragon Acrobats remain the only Chinese acrobatic company touring year-round in the United States and present more than 200 performances annually. They were in residence at the New Victory Theater on Broadway with Cirque Ziva in December 2014 about which the New York Times’ Ian Douglas wrote “The Golden Dragon Acrobats of China do the impossible..” Audiences who attended the first Reg performance raved about the artistry and energy of the performers and a gravity-defying moment when one of the acrobats climbed and balanced atop a tower of stacked chairs.
Ticket prices range from $9 to $45 for children and $15 to $45 for adults. Patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets before the event to get the best possible selection. Cirque Ziva is sponsored by Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant and Comfort Inn of Jamestown. Upcoming live events at The Reg include Aquila Theatre’s live production of Romeo and Juliet (March 11), Cirque Mechanics’ Pedal Punk (April 10) and a concert by a group from the Chicago music underground scene – the 30-piece marching band known as Mucca Pazza (May 14).
Reg Lenna Center for The Arts is located at 116 E. 3rd St. in Jamestown, NY. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday between 10am and 5pm and Saturday between 10am and 2pm. Tickets may be purchased in person, by phone – 716.484.7070 – or online at reglenna.com.
