Downtown Jamestown saw a larger number of visitors than usual for a Columbus Day weekend, thanks to the efforts of the Lucy – Desi Center for Comedy, Chautauqua Striders and the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena.

The inaugural Lucy Town Half Marathon and 5K took place both Saturday and Sunday, with more than seven hundred runners participating in the two running events. In addition, over one thousand people packed the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts Saturday Night to see comic legend Martin Short perform both standup and various skits featuring his most well-known characters.

As for the half marathon, Dan Mueller of Lakewood and Susan Bentley of Jamestown were the top male and female finishers for the race, which was interrupted with rain but didn’t seem to affect those who were participating.

The Lucy Town Half Marathon and related events were made possible through the coordinated effort of the three partner organizations, along with sponsorships from several area businesses including Univera Healthcare.
