JAMESTOWN – A public hearing on a multi-million dollar renovation effort at Covenant Manor in downtown Jamestown was scheduled to take place this morning at the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency.
According to a recent article in the Jamestown Post-Journal, the owner and operator of Covenent Manor, Millennia Housing Development of Cleveland, wants to spend $3 million to renovate and upgrade the building, which holds 88 apartment buildings, primarily used by seniors. However, before the renovations can move forward, the IDA must first give its approval. That’s because in 2012, the IDA granted the Covenant Manor owner a payment in lieu of taxes agreement.
Prior to giving its approval, the IDA board will hold a public hearing on the project. It is set to take place 10 a.m. this morning in the IDA conference room at 200 Harrison St.
Covenent Manor is located on the southeast corner of W. Third and Cherry Streets in downtown Jamestown. In addition to the apartment complex, the building is also home to the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame and provides additional office space on the ground floor.
