ARKWRIGHT – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office is being credited with helping to find a group of lost hikers Monday night in the north county town of Arkwright.
According to the Sheriff’s office, authorities received a call shortly before 9:30 p.m. reporting a group of 11 lost hikers. The group included two adults and nine youths, ages 4 to 19.
The group was hiking in the area of a creek near Park Rd. and became lost for approximately four and a half hours.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene with two K9 units, along with the Cassadaga Fire Department and New York State Forest Rangers. A search of the area was conducted and a Sheriff’s K9 did locate all 11 individuals. They were then escorted out of a wooded area.
Police say Two individuals sustained minor injuries.
