WASHINGTON – Congressman Brian Higgins is calling for the immediate removal of the country’s Postmaster General. The south Buffalo Democrat – who also represents Chautauqua County until the end of this year – sent a letter to the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors, citing a lack of confidence after what he says has been an absence of transparency and accountability in the facility closure process by Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe.
In his letter, Higgins cites a lack of confidence in USPS executives based on the process the Western New York community experienced over the past year as several Western New York facilities, including the William Street Mail Processing Facility in Buffalo, were designated for closure. Higgins argues that the lack of public engagement, refusal to cooperate with requests for information or meetings, and lack of integrity show disrespect for the public and should not be tolerated moving forward.
