JAMESTOWN – Two new businesses have officially been welcomed into the Jamestown community.
On Monday the Jamestown Renaissance Corporation, Jamestown Community Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Jamestown held a special ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of Havana Cuban Cafe and Pizzeria – located at 212 N. Main St. in the city.
Havana is the 25th restaurant to be located in the greater downtown area, which didn’t go unnoticed by Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi – who said that restaurant’s like Havana have helped to make the downtown the destination for people wanting to get a bite to eat.
“Downtown Jamestown and its restaurant flock is not the alternative to any place, it is THE place in the Jamestown area with the uniqueness, the quality of the food and the affordability of the food,” Teresi said. “This is the place to come if you want to dine and my guess is that 25 count is going to significantly grow as time goes on.”
Havana has a 100 percent Cuban-inspired menu and features their Cuban sandwich, Cuban-style pizza, and Completas which are composed plates of meat, beans, plantains or yucca, and white rice.
It is owned and operated by Reuben Hernandez, who said opening the restaurant has been a dream come true.
“Six years ago I graduated high school and soon after this opportunity came up and I purchased the building and having a background with my great grandfather who was a chef in Cuba, I decided lets continue the family legacy,” Hernandez said. “It wasn’t easy, there was a lot of dead ends and bumpy road but I finally got it open and it’s a dream come true.”
Hernandez said both he and his mother Rita are primarily involved with creating the recipes for the various Cuban dishes that are available.
Havana is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and is available for dine in or take out.
In addition to Havana, another new business was officially welcomed to Jamestown Monday.
City officials met at 839 Foote Ave. on the south side of the city to welcome Buffalo-based Carubba Collision to Jamestown. The auto body shop is owned by Collision president and CEO Joe Carubba.
