MAYVILLE – The Davide Coggins murder trail continued for the second day in Chautauqua County Court in Mayville with graphic photos and testimony being presented to the jury.
According to the Post-Journal, the county coroner, a medical examiner and a dentist all testified on Wednesday in the case again Coggins – who’s accused of being the ringleader in the Carroll Double Homicide case that took place in April 2013.
The witnesses testified that the bodies of the victims – Gordon and Joyce Skinner – were unrecognizable and that the use of dental records was the only way to identify the couple. Images of the bodies – which were set on fire after being stabbed multiple times – were also presented to the jury. The medical examiner also explained that Joyce Skinner died as a result of multiple stab wounds and smoke inhalation, while Gordon Skinner died of multiple stab wounds.
Coggins faces several charges, including two counts of first degree murder and arson. He and three other men are accused of driving from Elmira to the Skinners’ home on Wheeler Hill Rd. and committing the crime. The three others arrested in the case have already reached plea deals with the DA’s office and are expected to testify against Coggins later in his trial.
The trial resumes Thursday morning in county court.
