ALBANY – Gov. Andrew Cuomo has offered his condolences to those affected by the shooting of two journalists in Virginia. The governor also said the incident shows why the nation must address gun violence.
24-year-old reporter Alison Parker and 27-year-old videographer Adam Ward were shot and killed Wednesday morning by an ex-coworker while broadcasting a story live on local TV in Virginia.
In a statement, Cuomo said the tragedy is “the latest in seemingly endless, painful reminders that we must confront the rampant gun violence in our communities.”
The shooter, Vester Flanigan, was a former employee of WDBJ-TV, the Roanake T station where the two victims work. Flanigan shot and killed himself after driving nearly three hours from the scene.
