ALBANY – If voter registration is any indication, it appears the 2016 election could be one for the record books.
Governor Andrew Cuomo this week announced from October 1 to October 14, the Department of Motor Vehicles automated online system processed 214,356 online voter registration applications, including 122,147 from first-time voters.
The number of applications received during those two weeks shattered the previous one month record of 140,602 applications, including 78,432 from first time voters in September.
Two single day records were also set in October, with 59,018 applications processed on Thursday, October 13 and 67,782 processed on Friday, October 14.
The deadline to register to vote in New York State was Friday, Oct. 14.
