ALBANY– Assemblyman Andy Goodell (R-Jamestown) has been appointed to serve as the assistant minority leader pro tempore for the next two years, one of the top leadership positions within the Republican Caucus.
In this new position, Goodell will act as the assistant floor leader for the Assembly Republican minority, helping to lead and coordinate the debate on the floor of the Assembly. Goodell will review every proposed bill, and will help decide which bills are set aside for debate and which bills will move forward without opposition. He will also help lead the debate on the controversial bills.
Goodell was also reappointed as the ranking member on the Social Services, where he has proposed a number of bills designed to strengthen the welfare-to-work program, require students to graduate from school or obtain a GED diploma and implement a number of changes to make it easier for a person to leave welfare and become a productive member of society.
In addition to his leadership positions, Goodell was also appointed to be a member of the Cities Committee, where he says he hopes to continue his efforts to help the city of Jamestown and the city of Dunkirk with their fiscal challenges.
