ALBANY – New York’s Junior U.S. Senator is throwing her hat in the ring to run for president.
Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who’s 52, made the announcement Tuesday during a scheduled appearance on “Late Night with Stephen Colbert” on CBS.
Specifically, Gillibrand said she was forming a presidential exploratory committee on the Colbert show.
The Albany native would become the fifth Democrat to jump into the race to deny President Trump a second term and would be the second woman senator in the race, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass), already declaring her candidacy.
Gillibrand will likely be operating her campaign in downtown Troy, NY.
