JAMESTOWN – The National Weather Service in Buffalo issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Western New York, including Chautauqua County, until late morning Wednesday due to the potential of freezing rain and icy conditions across the region.
As a result of the slippery roadways and sidewalks in our area, Jamestown Public Schools cancelled all classes for the entire day. A couple local preschools were also cancelled.
In addition Cassadaga Valley schools were put on a one-hour delay and Fredonia Schools in the north county were put on a two-hour delay. Warren County Schools in Pennsylvania has also opted to close all classes for the day.
City routes for the CARTS buses were also running at least one hour late in the morning and rural routes were also put on hold.
Any one venturing out Wednesday morning was reminded of the potential for ice build up on local roadways. Use caution when approaching intersections and give yourself extra distance to slow down or come to a stop.
