BINGHAMTON – A Florida man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of a New York State Trooper near Binghamton.
State Trooper Christopher Skinner died instantly after he was intentionally hit by a car being driven by 60-year-old Almond Upton of Melrose, Florida.
The incident happened just afternoon on Thursday along I-81 in Broome County. Reports say that Upton was traveling on I-81 when he intentionally hit two cars driving north, injuring one of the drivers. He then continued for another mile, before spotting Trooper Skinner conducting a traffic stop. Upton allegedly drove straight for trooper Skinner and sideswiped the car he had stopped. Skinner was killed instantly.
