MAYVILLE – The effort to keep cigarettes and other tobacco-related products out of the hands of minors took a step backward in 2013.
According to the Public Health division of the Chautauqua County Department of Health & Human Services, Ten Chautauqua County businesses cited for selling tobacco products to minors. That’s compared to only two operators that were cited in 2012.
Businesses in the Jamestown area that were cited for underage tobacco sales in 2013 include:
- Falconer Grocery Store, 188 Falconer Street, Jamestown
- Don’s Car Wash, 184 East Fairmount Avenue, Lakewood
- U.S. News, Inc., 712 Foote Avenue, Jamestown
- Robo Convenience Store, 111 Marion Street, Jamestown
- CVS Pharmacy #5089, 10 South Work Street, Falconer
Under current law, retailers are required to obtain positive proof that the person buying cigarettes is over the age of 18. Retailers found in violation are subject to fines and loss of their tobacco registration and lottery license for repeated violations.
County health officials say Over 180 inspections of tobacco retailers were conducted during 2013.
