JAMESTOWN – City officials and local community leaders met on Monday afternoon to begin the process to decide how $10 million in state economic development funding will be spent.
This summer Jamestown was announced as the recipient of a $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) grant – one of only 10 communities in the state to receive the funding through a competitive application process. However, before the money can be distributed, a plan must first be developed to specifically outline what projects will receive funding.
On Monday the local planning committee – comprised of both city officials and representatives from various local foundations and organizations – met at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts to go over details of the funding and also the outline for how to proceed during the next few months. Officials hope a final plan will be completed and submitted for state review by February. A consultant – selected by state economic development officials – has been brought in to facilitate the process.
A follow up meeting is expected to take place later this fall. All meetings are open to the public.
