GERRY – A large house fire Monday morning in Gerry resulted in one minor injury by a responding volunteer fireman.
According to the Post-Journal, the fire broke out at a home at 4069 Route 380 in the town of Gerry around 2:30 a.m. Monday. It caused significant structural damage and forced the roadway to be closed for several hours. Nearly a dozen fire crews responded to the scene and a firefighter reportedly slipped on the ice and sustained minor injuries. One person was in the home at the time the fire broke out but was able to make it out safely. No other injuries were reported but the home was a total loss.
Fire officials believe the cause was an electrical short circuit.
